Tears flowed, I hadn't cried since I was a kid - men don't cry - but now I couldn't stop, I was a blubbering mess. I was naked in the bathroom and had just looked down... OMG I can't see my d**k.
How did I get here?
For years I was eating burgers, fries, crisps, pies, chocolate biscuits, drank all the booze in sight and I'd never gained an ounce, then as if by magic it had finally caught up with me.
I swore this would never happen yet here I was, with a belly so big my d**k wasn't visible.
I had joint pain and every time I climbed to my feet an involuntary old man groan escaped my lips.
SOMETHING had to change.
I started dieting & exercising, I tried aqua aerobics & yoga - I was on a mission & I tried everything, I hired a personal trainer & spent countless hours in the gym impersonating a radish - red faced & round. I would lose a kilo and put two on then lose four and gain it back, after every tiny morsel of success it came back THE F***ING FAT CAME BACK.
I was now obese & losing weight seemed like an insurmountable task.
It's about this point in my journey that I started thinking
Is it my trainers fault? Is it my fault? Perhaps I'm just 'big boned'. Maybe I've gotten too big. Maybe I'm aiming too high. Should I accept my fate? Should I give up? It would be easier. My mind was trying to convince me to stop and I was letting it. I didn't have the tools to solve my problem and couldn't find the way forward. So I found myself back in that bathroom in tears, still unable to see "it".
Luckily my best mate Aaron kicked my ass back into gear. We joined a new gym together & got a new trainer, we researched supplements & diets. The workouts got a lot more intense & while Aaron worked out I threw up.
Everyday another hard workout, everyday better food options, everyday a little more d**k visibility. IT WAS WORKING!
Fast forward 8 years now I'm a personal trainer & I can tell you as a fitness professional we love to tell clients that if you just do these exercises with that fad diet for the next however many days you stand to lose xyz % body fat. We aren't lying, that will & does happen. We say these statements get you started & to keep you motivated. However what most trainers choose to leave out is the UGLY TRUTH....IT'S A NEVER ENDING BATTLE! The instant you stop, so do your results & 99% of the time those results hit reverse and you're back to where you started at light speed. Let me tell you I've been there multiple times too and it SUCKS.
You need to fight everyday & I hear you "but Jono I can't keep killing myself in the gym forever, I can't stay on this restrictive diet FOREVER, It's too hard!!!"
You're right it is too hard, but what if you had the tools to take the fight out of your fat, tools that make it simple to stay the course, to make burning fat seem like shooting fish in a pile of fish. FYI - fish in barrels are actually very hard to shoot.
